Horan Has Record Recruiting Class

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/11/20)---In the age of diminishing college recruiting numbers at small colleges, head coach Terry Horan continues to buck the trend and get stronger every year. Horan announced his recruiting class which is the largest in the history of the program – and for the fifth straight seasons surpassed the 50 student/athlete mark.

The 2020 recruiting class features 56 incoming freshmen into the program which is one more than the number that Horan brought to the Concordia campus in 2018 when the squad featured 55 new student/athletes.

"We continue to set our goals high when it comes to recruiting," said Horan. This year we were able to spread out our territory and it proved to be instrumental in helping bring in the record number."

Concordia continues to see success in the state of Arizona and added multiple recruits from Florida and Nevada for the first time this year. The Cobbers will welcome 16 first-year athletes from states outside of the immediate Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota area.

"As the area programs get more involved in recruiting it is important to look for other parts of the country that have athletes which would be good fits for Concordia," Horan added. Our new assistants have brought some fresh insight, and in roads, into places where we haven't recruited before."

Once again, the Cobbers will rely heavily on talent from Minnesota and North Dakota. Of the record-setting 56 incoming student/athletes, 26 are from the state of Minnesota and 11 hail from North Dakota which gives Horan 37 new athletes from the foundation of Concordia recruiting.

"I will always recruit the best talent from the local area as well as all over Minnesota and North Dakota," added Horan. "The tradition of our program lies in being able to get tremendous athletes from the area. Look at this year's (2019) captains, all four were from Minnesota or North Dakota and All-American Alex Berg and quarterback Blake Kragnes were from the local Fargo-Moorhead area."

The breakdown of the incoming class features 29 on the defensive side of the ball, 22 on the offense and four kickers/punters. The largest number by position is defensive back which has 12 athletes in the class. The 2020 class also features nine linebackers, nine defensive linemen, seven offensive linemen, six running backs, five quarterbacks and four wide receivers.

"We addressed every position group in the class," Horan said. "We have a lot of depth at each position and I am very excited to see how this class will develop over the next four years. I can't thank my assistant coaches enough for the effort and hard work they put in during this difficult time. They are the backbone of the program and continue to exceed my expectations."

Below is a list of the current Cobber recruits to commit for the 2020 season.
