The Biggest Alumni Golf Outing Ever

MOORHEAD, Minn. (8/04/17)--- If the 100th season of Cobber football is anything like the annual alumni golf outing then Concordia is in for a very successful season.

Over 150 golfers showed up for the 15th annual Cobber Football Alumni Golf Outing on Friday at the Moorhead Country Club. It was the largest group in the history of the tournament.

"I am amazed at how big this day continues to grow," said head coach Terry Horan. From the number of players to the commitment level, and number, of the sponsors - it is a tremendous outpouring of support for the program.

The number of golfers and total sponsorship dollars once again topped the previous numbers from last year's outing. All the money raised by the golf outing goes into the football budget to help pay for travel and defray the cost of extra items throughout the course of the season.

"Without this type of commitment level from our alumni, friends and families, we would not be able to have the quality of program we have," stated Horan.

In addition to the level of participation and sponsorship, the amount of giveaways and prizes was also at an all-time high. Each golfer received a Cobber football sweatshirt as well as several other free gifts. The prize giveaway also featured items from the Edmonton Eskimos as well as college athletic departments from the University of Miami, Auburn University, Army, East Tennessee State, University of North Dakota and several others.

The number of golfers and interest in the annual event has grown to a level where Horan is thinking about adding a second flight of tee times for next year.

"In order to get any bigger of a group for the day we might have to have a set of tee times in the morning and then another in the afternoon," said Horan. "It's a great problem to have and I can't thank everyone who made this year's outing such a success enough."

The golf outing is also the unofficial start of the new season. The 2017 Cobber team will report to preseason camp on Saturday, Aug. 12. Concordia will travel to Lincoln, Neb. to take on Nebraska Wesleyan for the season opener. The Cobbers and Prairie Wolves will square off on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. Concordia will host six-time national champion Wis.-Whitewater in the home opener on Saturday, Sept. 9. CC is coming off the 2016 season where they posted a 7-3 overall record and came away with their fifth straight Top 3 finish in MIAC play.
