Easley Earns MIAC Weekly Honor

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/19/16)--- Concordia had its best defensive game of the year on Saturday and sophomore defensive back Juwan Easley reaped the rewards as he was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Easley was one of the key cogs in the Cobber defense which held Bethel to under 300 total offensive yards in the team's 21-13 win against the Royals.

Easley earns the conference weekly honor for the first time in his career and becomes the first Cobber to garner an MIAC Player of the Week award this year.

Bethel entered Saturday averaging 43.5 points and 528.0 yards per game. They ranked in the Top 10 in the nation in scoring and offensive yards heading into the conference opener and Concordia's Black Shirt defense was able to hold BU to 13 points and 293 yards of total offense.

Easley has stepped into his role as one of the main players in the Cobber secondary this year. He finished Saturday's game with a team-high 7.0 tackles. He had 5.0 solo tackles and assisted on a pair of others.

Where Easley's play was really significant was on pass defense. He had a career-high four pass break-ups which is the second most by a defensive player in the MIAC this season. His "blanket" coverage in the secondary helped Concordia hold Bethel to 224 passing yards which was the fewest they had posted all season.

Easley now has five pass break-ups on the year which is second most in the MIAC. He has a total of 9.0 total tackles.

Easley, and the rest of the Cobbers, will have an extended break to get ready for their next game. CC has the "bye" week this week and will then play at Gustavus on Saturday, Oct. 2.
