WDAY Radio To Broadcast Cobber Games

MOORHEAD, Minn. (7/22/16)—Concordia interim Athletic Director Rachel Bergeson announced that Concordia and WDAY radio will partner together to broadcast Cobber football games for the upcoming season.

"We are very excited about teaming up with WDAY," commented Bergeson. They have been a driving force in the area for a long time and it gives our athletic program another boost in coverage in the region."

WDAY 970 radio has agreed to broadcast all 10 Concordia football games this season. WDAY radio can be found at 970 on the AM dial and is North Dakota's oldest radio station. WDAY radio started in 1922 and is owned by Forum Communications. WDAY's signal covers west central Minnesota, the eastern half of North Dakota, northeastern South Dakota and southern Manitoba.

"This is the start of a beautiful friendship," said WDAY Radio Director Mike Kapel. "Concordia and WDAY are both longtime institutions in the area and it is a great partnership of staples in the community."

Larry Knutson, the Hall of Fame broadcaster for the Cobbers will continue to do the play-by-play for the broadcasts. Knutson will be starting his 35th season as voice of the Cobbers and will be joined by former Cobber football player Chris Ohm who will provide the color commentary. Ohm, who is currently the Dean of Students at Breck High School in the Twin Cities, has been providing color commentary on the Cobber broadcasts for the past several seasons.

There will be two new additions to the radio broadcasts on WDAY radio. The game coverage will feature a 30-minute pregame show and the live broadcast will feature a sideline reporter. Norm Bell who works in the Digital Media Services department at Concordia and is a former television reporter in the Fargo-Moorhead area will be the third member of the Cobber broadcast team.

The first broadcast on WDAY 970 AM will be the season opener on Saturday, Sept. 3 at the University of Jamestown. The kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. so fans can tune in at 12:30 p.m. to listen to the pregame show.
