The Aztec Bowl is a college NCAA Division II/III (since 1973) post-season bowl game that has been played intermittently since at least 1954. With but one exception, all of the games have been played at locations in Mexico; the exception was the 1957 game played in San Antonio, Texas.

Bachmeier and Hintermeister are carrying on the tradition of Concordia players participating in the senior showcase event. Last year defensive line standout Nate Adams participated in the game won by the American team.

Travis Aufderheide played for Team USA at the end of the 2008 season. Before Aufderheide, All-American offenwsive lineman Grant Weller donned the red, white and blue in 2007 and Tyler Ledyard played in 2006. Travis Almquist was chosen to play in the prestigious game in 2005. All-American offensive line standout Nick Didier participated in 2004. Before then, Derek Flann played in the 2002 Aztec Bowl, defensive star Mark Hankel played in the 2000 game, Jake Estenson participated in 1999 and Tory Langemo played in the inaugural AFCA Aztec Bowl back in 1997.

USA  All Stars have a 15-1 edge against the Mexican All Stars, while the Mexican All Stars have a 13-11 edge against non-All Star teams. The Mexican team is made up of players from teams in Mexico's  Major League (ONEFA), a league of 19 colleges and universities throughout the country playing American football.

Bachmeier and Hontermeister are two of 10 players in the MIAC participating in the Aztec Bowl.

Bachmeier has been a multiple-year starter for the Concordia offensive line. He has been a steadying force for three years from his position at right tackle. This season Bachmeier helped the Cobbers lead the MIAC in fourth-down conversion percentage and tied for first in red zone efficiency rate. CC also finished fifth in the conference in rushing yards per game and fifth in total yardage.

Hintermeister earned his third straight MIAC All-Conference Second Team honor. He was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 5 after his 15-tackle performance against nationally-ranked Bethel. Hintermeister finished the year second on the team in solo tackles (32), assisted tackles (37) and total tackles (69). He also had 6.0 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks and a pair of fumble recoveries.
