Another Slow Climb In The Rankings

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/20/14)—It was another slow climb in the Division III national rankings for Concordia. The Cobbers moved up a single spot in the D3football.com poll and retained the same position in the American Football Coaches Association of America (AFCA) poll.

The Cobbers are now ranked 20th in the latest D3football.com national poll. CC was in the No.21 spot last week. Concordia stayed as the No.23-ranked team in the AFCA poll. Despite not moving up in the AFCA rankings, the Cobbers did receive 29 more points in the coaches' poll.

Concordia is coming off a 20-point win at Augsburg. The Cobbers racked up 551 yards of total offense and held the ball for 37:58. CC had five players rush the ball at least seven times and all five had over 50 yards rushing. Concordia was led by the senior backfield tandem of Zach Southwick and Alex McLean. Southwich scored three touchdowns on the day and McLean recorded a career-high 119 rushing yards.

The Cobbers currently lead the MIAC in average time of possession (36:17), fourth-down conversion rate (73%), rushing yards (1698), rushing attempts (324), scoring defense (15.0 ppg) and rushing defense (88.4 yds/game). Concordia is also ranked third in NCAA Division III in time of possession. The Cobbers' average time of possession of 36:17 trails only St. Lawrence (37:02) and Elmhurst (Ill.) (36:32).   

Concordia is also ranked in the top 25 of the country in third-down conversion rate, fourth-down conversion defense, fewest penalties, fewest penalties per game, most first downs, rushing offense and sacks allowed.

Concordia will host Hamline on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. It will be the fourth home game of the year for the Cobbers. CC is 3-0 at home this season. The Pipers are 1-4 overall this year and 1-2 on the road.
