Cobbers Are Now A Consistent 22

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/21/13)—Concordia is now ranked 22nd in both major NCAA Division III national polls. The Cobbers moved up three spots in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) rankings and two spots in the D3football.com poll.

It is the third straight week that Concordia has found a spot in the top 25 of both major rankings. The Cobbers have been as high as No.18 in the AFCA poll and match their highest ranking in the D3football.com poll at No.22.

Concordia is currently 5-1 overall this season and 3-1 in conference play. The five total wins marks the seventh straight season that the Cobbers have won at least five games in a single season.

The Cobbers are coming off a 63-7 win at Hamline on Saturday. It was the second straight season that CC has scored 63 points in a win over the Pipers. Concordia scored on its first nine possessions on Saturday and came away with a season-high 342 rushing yards. The Cobber offense put up 481 yards of total offense which was the third time this season that CC has accumulated at least 400 yards in game. Defensively, the Cobbers held Hamline to just 266 yards. Concordia's pass defense held HU to just 87 passing yards which is the fewest allowed in a single game this season for the Cobbers.

With the 342 rushing yards, Concordia took the lead in the conference for most rushing yards per game. The Cobbers are now averaging 217.0 rushing yards per game. CC also ranks first in total offensive yards from scrimmage (2,469) and is third points per game (33.7). The Concordia defense is third in the MIAC in fewest rushing yards allowed per game (131.2) and sixth in total yards allowed per game (359.7).

Concordia will face another tough test at home when they host Augsburg on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 1 p.m. The Auggies have the league's top passing attack. Augsburg is averaging 280.3 passing yards per game and is led by sophomore quarterback Ayrton Scott who leads the MIAC in passing yards per game and touchdowns.
