Neal Earns MIAC Weekly Award

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/09/13)—Concordia junior quarterback Griffin Neal was named the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week following his 300-yard passing performance in the Cobbers' win over Jamestown on Saturday.

The weekly conference award is the second of Neal's career. He also won the honor after Concordia beat Carleton last season when he threw for 257 yards and rushed for 41 yards.

Neal was nearly perfect in the first half in Concordia's 39-14 win over the Jimmies in the season opener. He was 13-for-14 for 261 passing yards and threw for two scores. He helped the Cobbers score points on the first five possessions of the game which led to a 32-0 halftime lead.

Neal closed out his day by rushing for the only CC score in the second half. He scampered around the left end for an 8-yard TD at the start of the fourth quarter to cap Concordia's scoring for the day.

Neal finished the game by throwing for a career-best 303 yards. It is the most passing yards by a Cobber signal caller since Michael Dunham threw for 329 yards against St. Thomas on Sept. 24, 2011.

Neal was 16-for-19 against Jamestown and threw for two scores. He was able to get the ball to seven different receivers during the game. His favorite target was junior transfer Brandon Zylstra who caught five passes for a game-high 131 yards. He also hauled in both of Neal's scoring strikes.
