Cobber Nation Posts Another Top 5 Attendance Mark

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/08/13)-- For the second straight season Concordia finished fifth in the nation in attendance in Division III. The Cobbers drew an average of 4,839 fans for their five home games in 2012. It marks the seventh time in the past eight seasons Concordia has finished the season ranked in the top 10 in Division III attendance.

The average of 4,839 fans is the second highest season-ending total in program history and up an average of 154 people per game from last season. The Cobbers drew a record-setting 5,441 fans per game in 2007.

Concordia had a total of 24,197 people attend the five home games during the 2012 campaign which is also the second . The season-high for attendance came on Homecoming weekend when the Cobbers drew 5,765 fans for their game against Augsburg.  Concordia drew over 4,000 fans for all five home games.  

The Cobbers also helped the MIAC lead the nation in overall attendance.  In 2012, a total of 161,870 fans attended MIAC football games. With nine teams and 48 total games, the conference averaged 3,3723 fans per game. In fact, the MIAC drew more total fans in 2011 than two Division I FCS conferences and more than seven of the 10 conferences in Division II.

The final Division III totals had Old Dominion Athletic Conference as the runner-up in average attendance with a mark 2,966 fans per game, and the Ohio Athletic Conference finished second in total attendance with 132,867. The Eastern Collegiate Football Conference had the highest average increase as they had 282 more fans per game attend their contests as compared to 2011. This season, the MIAC was one of just nine Division III conferences to top 100,000 fans, and the only one to average more than 3,000 fans per game.
