Knowlton Named AFCA All-American

MOORHEAD, Minn. (12/11/12)—Concordia senior offensive tackled Tom Knowlton (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South HS) was one of only 25 players to be named to the prestigious American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American Team.

Knowlton, who also earned D3football.com All-Region honors and was named the Mike Stam award winner as the top lineman in the conference, was one of only three players from the MIAC to receive the top All-American honor.

It is the first time in his career that he has earned All-American honors and he is the first AFCA All-American for the Cobbers since 2004 when offensive tackled Nick Didier received the award.

Knowlton continues on the tradition of great offensive lineman at Concordia. He helped Concordia finish 18th in the nation in rushing yards per game. Knowlton was a part of an offensive line that helped the CC offense gain at least 400 total offensive yards in six of the team's 10 games. The high point of the year came on Sept. 8 against Buena Vista when the Cobber offense gained a season-high 634 total offensive yards. That total was the second most in school history.

The AFCA has selected an All-America team since 1945 and currently selects teams in all five of its divisions. What makes these teams so special is that they are the only ones chosen exclusively by the men who know the players the best — the coaches themselves.
