Steady Climb In National Rankings Continues

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/29/12)—Buoyed by the strength of a 24-point win over Carleton, Concordia continued to steadily climb in both major NCAA Division III national polls. The Cobbers are no the No.16 team in the nation in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) rankings and climb to No. 17 in the D3football.com poll. It is the first time that CC has been ranked in the top 20 in both polls since the 2005 season.

The Cobbers moved up three spots in the AFCA poll and gained five places in the D3football.com rankings. Concordia gained almost 100 voting points in the coaches' poll. CC went from 249 last week to 348 in this week's release. The improvement in the D3football poll was even greater as Concordia garnered 107 more points – climbing from 79 to 186.

Concordia is currently 7-1 on the season in all games and 5-1 in conference play. The Cobbers have won three straight games and the seven total wins is the most since the 2007 season. CC is currently ranked sixth in passing efficiency in Division III. The Cobbers have an average rating of 173.23. Concordia is also 16th in rushing offense and 20th in rushing defense.

The Cobbers face their toughest test of the season on Saturday when they host No.3-ranked St. Thomas at 1:10 p.m. at Jake Christiansen Stadium. The Tommies currently lead the MIAC with a 6-0 record and have won 32 straight league games.
