Cobbers Move Up 4 Spots In National Rankings

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/15/12)—Concordia moved up four spots in the American Football Coaches Association National Poll (AFCA) which was released on Monday.  The Cobbers are now ranked 21st following their 49-point win over Hamline on Saturday.

Concordia was the final team in the poll last week as they were the No.25 team in the poll and accounted for 90 points. This week the Cobbers moved up four places and earned 178 points.

The Cobbers are currently 5-1 overall and 3-1 in MIAC play. Concordia is in a three-team logjam for second place in the MIAC standings with teams with only one conference loss. It marks the second time in as many years that the Cobbers have been four games above the .500 mark. Last season they were 6-2 before finishing the year at 6-4.

Concordia rushed for 303 yards against Hamline which was the second time in 2012 that CC has surpassed the 300-yard mark on the ground. The Cobber defense also limited the Pipers to 94 rushing yards. That is the fifth straight week that the Concordia defense has not allowed an opponent to gain 100 yards on the ground. The Concordia rushing offense is currently ranked 10th in the nation while the rush defense is 11th in all of Division III.

Concordia is also in the top 40 of Division III in scoring offense (36th), total defense (17th), passing efficiency (27th) and sacks (28th).

Next up for the Cobbers is a tough road test. CC will go on the road to face another one-loss conference team when they play at Augsburg on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m.
