Despite Freak Loss, Cobbers Stay In National Rankings

MOORHEAD, Minn. (10/08/12)—Despite coming out on the wrong end of one of the strangest endings to a college football game in recent history, Concordia remained firmly in the national ranking spotlight. The Cobbers moved up in the D3football.com national poll and only slid two spots in the American Football Coaches' Association (AFCA) rankings.

The national voters were obviously aware of the fact that Concordia held Bethel, the No.7-ranked team in country entering the weekend, to only seven points through the first 60-minutes of play and despite  the one-point, mind-numbing, no-second loss to the Royals, the Cobbers were rewarded for their continued excellent play on the season.

Concordia is now ranked 25th in the latest AFCA poll and are the top team in the "others receiving votes" category in the D3football.com national poll. The Cobbers earned 31 points in the D3football.com poll after having only 16 the week before.

The Cobbers are now 4-1 on the season and have outscored their opponents 153-89. Concordia is currently ranked 10th in the nation in rushing defense and 12th in rushing offense. The Cobbers are only allowing opponents an average of 69.6 rushing yards per game while hammering out 282.8 rushing yards per game on offense.

Concordia will host Hamline in the annual Homecoming game on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
