Hvidston Named MIAC Defensive Player of the Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (9/17/12)—Concordia senior linebacker Peter Hvidston was named the MIAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Cobber defense with 9.0 total tackles and 2.0 sacks in their win over St. Olaf on Saturday.

It is the first conference weekly award for Hvidston and he becomes the second Concordia player to earn MIAC Player of the Week honors. Last week Brett Baune was named the MIAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Hvidston and the rest of the Cobbers are now 3-0 on the year which marks the first time since 2005 that Concordia has started a season with three consecutive wins.

Hvidston's ability to put pressure on the Ole defense helped the Cobbers limit the Oles to just 19 rushing yards and 175 total offensive yards for the game. The 175 total offensive yards is the fewest gained by St. Olaf since the 2008 season.  Concordia was especially good on third downs, allowing the Oles to convert just 2-of-10 opportunities.

Hvidston leads the MIAC with 33 total tackles and five sacks. He also has 5.5 tackles-for-a-loss which are the second-most in the league thus far in 2012.

Concordia will be looking to add to their win total when they host St. John's on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. The game will be a part of the annual Family Weekend celebration.
