Season Ends At North Dakota State

FARGO, N.D. (5/08/18)---Concordia completed its 2018 season by falling 10-0 at NCAA Division I North Dakota State.

The Cobbers fell behind 3-0 after the first inning and could never dig out of the hole as they had their 2-game win streak come to an end. Concordia finishes the season with a 17-19 overall record.  The Bison snap their 3-game losing skid and are now 19-22 on the year.

Concordia had a single hit in five of the seven innings of play against NDSU. The Cobbers repeatedly had traffic on the base paths but were unable to get a hit to score a run.

One of the best chances to score for Concordia came in the fourth inning when senior Turner Storm doubled with one out. He was stranded on second after a fly out to left field and a ground ball to shortstop.

The Cobbers had a runner on third base in third inning when Grant Toivonen came through with a 1-out single.  He advanced to second on a ground out to the pitcher and then went to third on a wild pitch at the next at-bat.

Concordia had five different players collect one hit in the game. Storm went 1-for-3 with a double in his final collegiate game. Fellow seniors Chad Johnson and Nate Leintz also had a base knock in their final career game.

Junior Grant Toivonen and freshman Sean McGuire had the other base knocks for CC.

The Cobbers used four different pitchers in the seven innings of play. Drew Thompson was given his first collegiate start and went the first 3.0 innings. He allowed three earned runs on five hits and struck out one.

Drew Olsonawski and Fletcher Andel both pitched 1.0 innings and both gave up one earned run and struck out one. McGuire finished off the game for the final 1.2 innings.

CAREER HIT BROTHERS: Seniors Chad Johnson and Turner Storm both had one hit on Tuesday and both players finished their Cobber career with 116 base knocks. That places them in a tie for 19th place on the school's all-time hit list.

NEXT TO 100: Cobber junior Nate Hoeft is the next closest Cobber player to 100 career hits. He has 68 hits in his three years – all of which have come in the past two years. Hoeft is a career .279 hitter.

SEASON STAT LEADERS: Turner Storm won the Cobber season batting title with a .309 average. He also led the team in hits. Chad Johnson was second in average with a .300 mark but led the team in doubles, home runs, slugging percentage, on-base percentage and stolen bases. Nate Leintz led the Cobbers in RBI with 25.

SEASON STAT LEADERS 2: Austin Ver Steeg captured the team ERA crown this season. Ver Steeg had a stellar 1.26 ERA in 36.0 innings of work. Cole Christensen led the team in wins with four. He also had the most innings pitched with 42.0. Senior Zack Nelson held opponents to a .185 batting average which was the lowest of any Cobber pitcher on the staff.
