Carlson Adds Another All-Region Award
MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/24/16)--- Tim Carlson added a second All-Region honor as he was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings Midwest All-Region Third Team.
The award comes a day after he was named to the D3baseballl.com All-Midwest Region Third Team.
Carlson is the latest in a long line of Cobber players who have earned ABCA All-Region honors. He becomes the 50th Concordia player since 1983 to receive the award. The Cobbers have had at least one player earn the honor in five straight seasons and in 16 of the past 18 years. Last year four CC players earned the coaches' region award. Cobber head coach Chris Coste was a three-time All-Region award winner and football head coach Terry Horan was named to the 1989 ABCA All-Region Team.
The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 8,200 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth.
Carlson had a career year at the plate in 2016 which helped the Cobbers win 21 games over the course of the year. It is the seventh time in the past 15 years that CC has won at least 20 games in a season. Carlson finished his four years at Concordia by winning 84 games.
Carlson finished the year with a .354 batting average. He had a team-high 52 hits in his 39 games played. Carlson put up a .441 on-base percentage which was helped by 16 bases on balls. He also recorded 15 doubles, two triples and five home runs which gave him 86 total bases for the year and a .585 slugging percentage. Carlson had at least one hit in 28 of the 39 games and had 16 multiple-hit games. His top hitting output contest of the year came on the team's spring trip to Florida where he went 4-for-4 against Elmira. He also had six three-hit games during 2016.
Carlson played in 118 games in his four-year career in maroon and gold and finished with a .343 batting average. He collected 134 hits which are tied for 10th on the school's all-time hit list. Carlson also had 38 career doubles which is second best in program history.
