Carlson Named MIAC Player Of The Week

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/04/16)—Concordia senior Tim Carlson was named MIAC Player of the Week after having at least one home run and two hits in all three Cobber games last week.

It is the first time in his career that Carlson has won the conference weekly award. He also becomes the second Concordia player to earn Athlete of the Week honors this season. Freshman pitcher Fletcher Andel was named the MIAC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 29.

Carlson finished the week with a .462 batting average, a monstrous 1.30 slugging percentage and a .533 on-base percentage. He had two hits in all three games as Concordia went 2-1 for the week.

Carlson went 2-for-5 with a home run and a double in Concordia's win over No.9-ranked Jamestown on Monday. The Jimmies entered the game with a 30-1 record and Carlson hit a homer in the fifth inning to start CC's comeback from an 8-5 deficit.

On Sunday Carlson went 4-for-8 and clouted two long balls in the Cobbers' split with St. Olaf. He also had four RBI, three extra-base hits and two walks.

Carlson's big week propelled him into the team lead in hitting among regulars. He is now hitting .373 and has a .672 slugging percentage. Carlson has hit safely in five straight games and has at least one base knock in 12 of the 17 games he has played this season. He also has eight multiple-hit games in 2016 and a team-best six multiple-RBI games.

Carlson is second in the MIAC in homers with four and fourth in total bases with 45.

Carlson, and the rest of the Cobbers, will have a busy week as they are scheduled to play five games. Concordia will play at Minn.-Morris on Tuesday. They will return to league play on Wednesday when they play at Bethel and then travel to St. Paul to take on St. Thomas on Saturday.
