Bornhauser Ends Career As An All-American

MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/22/15)—Nick Bornhauser capped his senior session in fitting fashion as he was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-American Team.

Bornhauser was placed on the ABCA Division III All-American Second Team and is one of only two players from the MIAC to earn the sport's top athletic honor. St. Mary's outfielder Ben Buerkle was also placed on the All-American Second Team.

Bornhauser becomes the fifth player in Cobber baseball history to earn ABCA All-American Honors. He is the first since 2009 when Kyle Johnson was placed on the All-American Third Team. Derek Dormanen earned third team honors in 2003. Concordia head coach Chris Coste was a three-time All-American from 1993-95 while Howard Berglund was named to the All-American team in 1984.

Bornhauser is the sixth Cobber student/athlete to earn All-American honors during the 2014-15 academic calendar.

The All-American honor is the final award in a long list of achievements for Bornhauser. He started the season by being named the MIAC Player of the Week on two occasions. He was also named the NCBWA National Player of the Week as well as being placed on the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week. Bornhauser finished the season by earning MIAC All-Conference honors. He then went on to be named to the ABCA and D3baseball.com All-Midwest Region Team.

Bornhauser's rise to an All-American might be one of the most improbable in program history. He was hurt for most of his junior season and hit only .167 in 21 games. In his senior year in 2015 he hit .424 and broke the school record for doubles (19) and RBI (47). The doubles record was only three years old while the RBI mark had been in place since 2003.

Bornhauser finished in the top 15 of the nation in four different offensive categories. He was seventh in doubles per game, 11th in slugging percentage, 13th in doubles and 14th in RBI per game. Bornhauser lit up the MIAC stat lists as well. He was in the top 2 in the conference in a remarkable six different offensive statistical categories.

After graduating earlier in the month, Bornhauser has gone on to continue his career in baseball by signing a professional contract with the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League.
