Meland Makes D3baseball.com History

MOORHEAD, Minn. (4/2/14)—Concordia senior pitcher Jackson Meland was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week. He becomes the first Cobber player to ever win the national award since the website started the weekly honor back in 2012.

Meland was the only player from the MIAC to be placed on this week's D3baseball.com Team of the Week and he is just the second player from the conference to earn the national honor this season.

Complete D3baseball.com Team of the Week

Meland's national award comes a day after he earned MIAC Player of the Week honors for the first time in his three-plus seasons at Concordia. Meland was the first player to be honored with the conference's weekly award since Apr. 23, 2012.

Meland earned the D3baseball.com Team of the Week honor for his dominating performance at Dickinson State on Friday, Mar. 28. He pitched a complete-game one-hitter to record his second win of the season. Meland gave up a lone single in the first inning and then proceeded to retire 16 straight Blue Hawk hitters and 20 of the final 21 batters he faced. During the final six innings he only allowed two balls to be hit into the outfield and induced 11 batters to ground out.

Meland finished with six strikeouts and didn't allow an earned run in the game. He faced only three batters over the minimum and did not allow a walk.

Meland's complete control at Dickinson State helped lower his season earned run average to 3.24. Opposing hitters are hitting a meager .202 against the lefty in 25.0 innings of work. He has only allowed a combined 21 hits and walks (0.84) this season.

Meland is a four-year starter for the Cobbers and has a career ERA of 3.95. His best season came in 2011-12 when he went 4-3 and finished with a 3.21 ERA.
