Four Cobbers Earn MIAC Postseason Awards
MOORHEAD, Minn. (5/15/12)—For the second
straight season, Concordia had four players earn MIAC postseason
awards. Michael Olson was named to the MIAC
All-Conference and All-Defensive Teams while Braden
Rahman earned All-Conference honors, Brian
Guler was placed on the MIAC All-Defensive Team and
Erik Stoa was the team's representative on the
All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.
The quartet of players helped the Cobbers post a 9-11 record in
conference play. Concordia finished in a tie for sixth place in the
league standings.
Olson, the team's starting center fielder, hit .388 and played in
all 20 conference games. He led the team in doubles and was tied
for second in the category in the MIAC. He was also tied for fourth
in overall hits among league hitters and was fourth in plate
appearances and tied for fifth in runs scored. Olson did not make
an error in the field and his fielding percentage of 1.00 in 54
chances earned him a spot on the All-Defensive Team.
Rahman led the team in hitting and was fifth in the league with a
.409 average in 20 conference games. He was in the top 10 in the
MIAC in eight different statistical categories. Rahman was tied for
second in home runs and total bases, fourth in slugging percentage
and walks, fifth in on-base percentage and tied for sixth in
RBI.
Like Olson, Guler did make an error in the field. He fielded 172
chances without making a miscue at first base. He came away with
167 put outs and five assists and started all 20 games for the
Cobbers.
