Time To Get Outside

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (3/24/12)—Concordia dropped three out of four games against Rockford (Ill.) in their final four games of the Metrodome portion of their 2012 schedule. The Cobbers fell 4-2 and 10-7 in 10 innings on Friday night and then won 2-1 and lost 12-1 in the early morning hours of Saturday.

Concordia concludes the inside portion of their schedule with a 5-7 record. CC has now lost four of their last five games.

The big highlight of the weekend for the Cobbers was the 2-1 win on Saturday. Cobber sophomore lefthanded pitcher Jackson Meland threw 6.1 innings and only allowed one earned run. He scattered seven hits and struck out four. Meland limited Rockford to just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position and also 1-for-8 with two outs in an inning. It was Meland's first collegiate win and he lowered his season ERA to 4.15.

Freshman Nate Wendorf relieved Meland in the seventh inning and picked up the last two outs of the game after the Regents had runners on first and second with only one out. Wendorf came on and induced a pair of foul fly ball outs to record his first collegiate save.

The Cobbers came up with just five hits in the 2-1 win but were very economical in plating the two runs. Erik Hiedeman singled and then scored to tie the game at 1-1 in the third inning and then Jordan Doschadis singled through the left side of the infield to bring home the game-winning run in the fifth frame.

Doschadis led Concordia in the four games against Rockford. He went 5-for-10 and scored two runs. Chris Gilson recorded a team-high two RBI and Braden Rahman and Kyle Kramer accounted for the only two extra-base hits of the weekend.

Bryce Feia and Kirk Schroeder also had scoreless outings for the Concordia pitching staff. Feia pitched a scoreless 2.2 innings and Schroeder came on to record the final out in the 10-1 loss on Saturday. Feia has now pitched 4.1 innings this season and has yet to allow a run.

The Cobbers will now head outside for the remainder of their 2012 slate. Concordia will host three non-conference games this week before opening up MIAC play at Carleton on Saturday. CC will square off against Jamestown College on Tuesday, Mar. 27 in a twinbill beginning at 2 p.m. and then face UM-Morris in a single game on Wednesday, Mar. 28 at 3:30 p.m.
