Jake Christiansen Stadium

Jake Christiansen Stadium

In May 2010, Concordia began a series of renovations and new construction to improve historic Jake Christiansen Stadium and Athletic Complex.

FieldTurf, the international quality standard for athletic fields, was installed to replace the original natural grass football field. A safe surface for athletes and environmentally friendly, FieldTurf is the world-wide leader in artificial grass and synthetic turf systems. It features a thick, cushioned infill of sand and rubber that is vital to safety, durability and longevity.

In addition to significantly lowering maintenance costs, increasing playing and practice time, and providing all-weather playability, FieldTurf's many exclusive benefits have put it in a class of its own, as demonstrated by 21 of 32 NFL teams using it.

The new field is the home of Cobber football, collegiate and high school playoff games, and conference and playoff soccer matches.

The adjacent baseball infield was also covered with FieldTurf, making it the region’s unequaled baseball facility. The field drains quickly, thus making it playable in wet weather conditions, especially during the springtime season.

For track and field competitions, a new wireless timing system was installed at the stadium.
New locker rooms for the football and women’s soccer teams will be constructed in the second phase of the plan to “Update the Jake,” along with enhancements to the soccer field and lighting of the football field. All-weather, paved parking spots will also be installed between the football and baseball facilities.

Considered to be one of the best football facilities in the Upper Midwest by players and fans alike, Jake Christiansen Stadium was completed in 1966. A group of Fargo-Moorhead business leaders raised the funds for construction, stipulating that it be named in honor of legendary coach Jake Christiansen, who guided Cobber football teams for 28 years, winning one national championship and enduring only one losing season. “The Jake” has seating for 7,000 fans.

The stadium also features an eight-lane, premium all-weather Mondo track for track and field events.
